Pedestrian identified in fatal crash in Winton
A man killed last week when he was struck by a vehicle in Winton was identified Thursday by the Merced County Coroner’s Office.
Richard Zaferes, 55, was killed Oct. 16 when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Winton Way. He was not in a crosswalk, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The identity was confirmed Thursday by the Coroner’s Office.
He was struck by a Silver Saturn LS2, driven by 63-year-old Francisco Rodriguez, who was headed north on Winton Way at an undetermined speed, according to the CHP.
No other injuries were reported.
