Woman cyclist hurt in run-in with car
A 51-year-old woman sustained minor injuries Monday in a bike vs. vehicle crash at the intersection at G Street and Olive Avenue, Merced police said.
The incident was reported at 2:20 p.m.
The driver, Apolinar Ponce, 33, was traveling northbound on G Street in a 1996 black Honda, about to turn east on Olive Avenue. Leticia Torres-Huerta was riding a bike westbound in the eastbound lane of Olive Avenue, according to Sgt. Bobby Chapman.
As the driver of the Honda looked to his right to turn east on Olive Avenue, the cyclist struck the right front side of the car. Torres-Huerta was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of a minor head injury.
