Teenager struck by train in Livingston dies

A teenager was killed Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by a train while crossing the tracks on Main Street in Livingston, the Police Department reported.

The victim, described by police as a teenage boy, was not immediately identified. Officers said they would work with the Merced County Coroner’s Office to identify the victim and notify his family.

“From what we’re gathering, it’s believed he was trying to cross the tracks, tried to beat the train and was struck,” police Lt. Chris Soria said in a telephone interview.

The collision was reported around 4:45 p.m. on the Main Street-area tracks, near B Street, police said.

Numerous witnesses have been interviewed by investigators.
