Livingston teenager killed by train identified
A Livingston boy who died Tuesday when he was struck by a train has been identified by the Merced County Coroner’s Office as 13-year-old Edgar Roldan.
Roldan was struck by a train around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday on the tracks on Main Street near B Street, according to Livingston police.
Investigators believe he was crossing the tracks and attempted to beat the oncoming train. He died at the scene, police said.
Lt. Chris Soria said Roldan was walking with a group of friends after having pizza together a nearby restaurant. They were walking south on Main Street and part of the group had safely crossed the tracks when they heard the train coming.
“He was with a friend and his brother behind the first group of kids. They hear the train and tell him not to cross,” Soria told the Sun-Star. “He tried to run across the tracks and slipped and fell and that’s when he was hit.”
Police continued to investigate the collision Wednesday. Soria said officers would look into the speed at which the train was traveling and other factors as part of the investigation.
“We have no reason to suspect any wrongdoing in this case at this time,” Soria said.
