One man was pronounced dead and another sustained major injuries Friday afternoon in a solo traffic collision near Planada, the California Highway Patrol confirmed.
A 2006 silver Cadillac DTS was traveling southbound on Santa Fe Avenue, south of Burchell Avenue at about 4:26 p.m. when the vehicle drifted off the shoulder and the driver lost control, Officer Moises Onsurez, a CHP spokesman said.
As a result of the collision, both the driver and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was transported to an area hospital.
As of Friday evening, it was unknown if driving under the influence was a factor, Onsurez said. The investigation is ongoing.
