Woman struck by vehicle, dies
A 35-year-old Los Banos woman died late Wednesday after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Mercey Springs Road, the Los Banos Police Department reported.
The woman’s name was not released pending notification of her family.
Acting Police Chief Ray Reyna Jr. said the woman was crossing Mercey Springs Road just after 10 p.m. when she was struck by a Mazda sedan, driven by a 20-year-old Hollister man. His name was also not immediately available.
Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been factors in the collision.
“He was very cooperative and voluntarily submitted to blood and breath (tests),” Reyna told the Sun-Star.
Emergency responders scrambled to help the woman, who suffered major head injuries. She was rushed to Memorial Hospital in Los Banos, where she died a short time later, police said.
Reyna said investigators were still working to determine specific details, including the direction in which the woman was crossing the road.
