City offices closed

Merced city offices will be closed Monday for Presidents Day. The City Council normally meets on Mondays but instead will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 678 W. 18th St. Trash collection will be delayed by one day through the end of the week. For more, go to www.cityofmerced.org.

Sex ed, live music

Respecticon, a battle of the bands and sex-education event, is planned from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St. Along with music, the day offers a free lunch and lessons on body image, relationships and LGBT issues, among other topics. For more, email middlestatefeminists@gmail.com.

Hula dancing

The Merced County Arts Council and the county Office of Education will offer Becky Manandic and the South Pacific Dance Company’s hula dancing at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Black Box Theatre, 645 W. Main St. Open to children ages 3 to 8. Admission is $3 per child, with no charge for adults. Tickets are available at the box office. Call the council at 209-388-1090.

Film series

The UC Merced Human Rights Film Series continues with “The House I Live In” at 7 p.m. Friday in Classroom Office Building 120 at the 5200 Lake Road campus. Call 209-658-9481 or email hrfilm@ucmerced.edu.

Youth football, cheer

The Merced Blue Devils Youth Football and Cheer organization will begin its first season with registration planned for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 20 at Big 5 Sporting Goods, 1746 W. Family Story Time

Family Story Time is set for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 20 at the Merced County Library, 2100 O St. It is free and suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. For more, call 209-385-7643.

The Los Banos Chamber of Commerce is offering a “Lunch and Learn” at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 24 in Espana’s Banquet Room, 1460 E. Pacheco Blvd. For more information, call the Los Banos Chamber of Commerce at 209-826-2495.

Free health screenings

Castle Family Health Centers is planning the ninth annual Day of Service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 12 at the Bloss Clinic, 1251 Grove Ave., in Atwater. The free event offers health screenings for adults and children. There will be music, games and activities for children along with free lunch and raffles. For more, call 209-381-2000 ext. 7210.
