Merced hazardous waste collection scheduled

The Merced County Regional Waste Management Authority is hosting a household hazardous waste event on Saturday for residents and Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators (CESQG).

The event will be held at the Highway 59 Landfill, 7040 N. Highway 59 in Merced, according to a county press release.

Household hazardous waste is any leftover household product that contains ingredients that are “corrosive, reactive, ignitable, flammable and/or toxic.” Examples include: ammonia-based cleaners, non-empty aerosol cans (empty cans may be placed into a curbside recycling can), fluorescent tubes, automotive and household batteries, paint, pool chemicals, solvents and used motor oil.

Before bringing items out to the facility, call Advanced Chemical Transport (ACT) to identify the amount and type of hazardous household waste and to schedule a drop-off time.

Under state of California transportation regulations, there are quantity limitations on how much hazardous household waste can be transported. There is no cost for residents within Merced County, but quantity limitations apply. Fees apply for CESQGs.

Call ACT at (209) 722-4228 for more information and to make arrangements. More information is also available at www.mercedrecycles.com/hhw.html.
