Merced’s interim records keeper has been named to the full-time position, officials announced Tuesday.

John Tresidder, who has been the interim assistant city clerk since September, has been given the full-time job. He takes over for Miranda Lutzow, who left for another job last year.

The assistant city clerk position in Merced oversees the City Clerk’s Office. The city manager in Merced also officially holds the title of city clerk.

As records keeper, Tresidder is the clerk for the City Council and its other 14 boards and commissions. “I am excited and honored to be given the opportunity to play such an important role in our city government,” Tresidder said in a news release.

The City Clerk’s Office tracks council meeting minutes, contracts and city ordinances. Tresidder is the point person for addressing Public Records Act requests, which include city documents under open government laws.

He’s been heavily involved in the city’s transition to election districts, according to a news release.

A records keeper also ensures compliance with Fair Political Practices Commission disclosure filings for the candidates, who are required to report campaign contributions.

City Manager Steve Carrigan said Tresidder has done “a great job” for the city in the past six months. “We had a field of strong candidates for the position and John stood out among those,” Carrigan said in a news release. “He will do an exceptional job for the city.”

Tresidder, 46, who was raised in Merced, is a Merced High graduate who attended Merced College and Golden State College, according to the news release. He started working in Merced in November 2013, and is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the City Clerks Association of California.

The position pays $68,515 a year, according to the city’s salary schedule.
