“Beauty and the Beast Jr.” at Merced Theatre
The Weaver Performing Arts performance of “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” began Tuesday on the Merced Theatre stage with shows for the public planned this week.
The production features the songs from the Disney movie, which include “Be Our Guest,” “Belle” and title theme “Beauty and the Beast,” among others.
Public performances are planned at 7 p.m. Friday; and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at the theater, 301 W. Main St. Tickets are $10.
“Beauty and the Beast Jr.” features the characters from the Disney movie, like Lumiere the candelabra, Cogsworth the clock and Mrs. Potts the teapot.
The Disney adaptation of the classic French tale tells the story of a prince turned into a monster who must find love or be cursed forever. That’s where Belle, a young lady from town, comes into play.
The show features more than 60 students from the three schools in the Weaver Union School District.
Weaver Performing Arts has been performing musicals with fourth- through eighth-graders since 2003. Last year’s offering of Disney’s “Mulan Jr.” was performed for more than 5,000 people, according to a news release.
