Lonestar joins Merced County Fair lineup

The multiplatinum country music group Lonestar will be among the featured performers this summer at the Merced County Fair, organizers announced.

The group of Texans who first began performing together in Tennessee are celebrating their 20th anniversary with an extensive tour, for which they are reuniting with original lead singer Richie McDonald. The Merced appearance is one of more than 90 dates scheduled across North America.

Lonestar, which is known for merging country roots with relaxed rock and pop influences, will perform at the Merced fairgrounds on Saturday, June 11.

This year, the fair is marking its 125th year and will run from June 8 through 12 at the fairgrounds, 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Lonestar has sold more than 10 million albums since its launch in 1995, and achieved 10 No. 1 Hot Country Songs on the Billboard charts. Their songs include “No News,” “Come Crying To Me,” “Smile” and “Amazed,” to name a few.

The band won a 1999 American Country Music single of the year award for “Amazed,” which also won the song of the year award.

Other performers scheduled to be at the fair include funk, Christian and tribute bands:

June 8: Christian singer and songwriter Jimmy Needham is set to perform live. In his 11-year career, he has produced seven albums including his most recent album, “Vice & Virtue.”

June 9: The Long Run, an Eagles tribute band, was formed in Los Angeles in 1999 and since then has been performing for audiences across the U.S. The six-member group has shared the stage with the likes of Julio Iglesias, Eric Clapton and the Bee Gees, according to a news release.

June 10: Funk band Tower of Power returns to the fairgrounds. The horn-driven band is know for “So Very Hard to Go,” “What is Hip?” and “You’re Still a Young Man,” among other singles.

The June 12 entertainment has yet to be named, but is typically a Latin band.

Admission to all of the concerts is free with paid fair admission, which is $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12 and under. Children 5 or younger get in free.
