Merced Budget Visioning Workshop set for Thursday

The annual Budget Visioning Workshop to set Merced city spending priorities will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Council Chambers on the second floor of the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St.

“The results of the workshop will be used in making the city’s 2016-17 budget,” city officials said in a news release Monday. “During the special meeting of the City Council staff will review past priorities and the council’s budget policy guidelines.”

City officials are hoping to hear ideas from residents during the workshop. Time has been set aside for public comments.

“We’ve heard the concerns of the public during the town hall meetings,” said City Manager Steve Carrigan. “Now we need to hear what the council’s priorities are and what priorities the citizens have so we can incorporate them into our budget.”

Budget hearings will be held in May prior to the budget’s adoption in June.
