Merced Citizens Police Academy gets deadline extension

The deadline to apply for the Citizens Police Academy in Merced has been extended to 4 p.m. Monday, police announced Tuesday.

Police Chief Norman Andrade said the program builds trust between residents and police officers.

Between 20 and 25 residents will be able to participate in an 11-week program in which participants meet with department experts to learn about procedures, programs and specialty units within the Merced Police Department.

The Citizens Police Academy begins April 13 and meetings are held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays.

Applicants can apply at cityofmerced.org or pick up an application at the Police Department, 611 W. 22nd St.

For further information, contact Eugene Drummond, community liaison, at 209-385-6297.
