Dos Palos woman killed in Highway 152 crash

A 26-year-old Dos Palos woman was killed Thursday morning in a collision with a big rig at the intersection of Highway 152 and Road 9 in Madera County, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision took place at 7:45 a.m. in heavy fog. The CHP said Gary Vasser, 60, of Gransbury, Texas, was driving a 2013 Peterbilt and had stopped on Road 9 at the Highway 152 intersection. Vasser reportedly checked for traffic by looking left and right three times before turning west onto Highway 152.

The woman, driving a 2001 Dodge eastbound at 55-60 mph, apparently did not see the truck and collided with the big rig’s trailer. She died after being taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

Her passenger, Vanessa Esquivel, 25, of Dos Palos, sustained major injuries and was also taken to CRMC. Vasser was not injured.
