One killed in two-vehicle crash near Atwater
A 36-year-old Winton man was killed Friday in a two-vehicle crash reported at Buhach and Fisher roads just north of the Atwater/Winton area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The name of the victim had not been released by the coroner’s office.
The crash was reported at 4:10 p.m. after Jeramy Culpepper, 26, of Modesto was driving a 2012 Ford Focus north on Buhach Road, approaching a stop sign at Fisher Road, according to CHP.
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old man was driving a 2000 Ford Mustang west on Fisher Road, east of Buhach Road.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the Focus failed to halt at the stop sign at the intersection. The front end of the Focus struck the driver’s side of the Mustang. Both vehicles sustained major damage and came to a stop at the northwest corner of Buhach and Fisher roads.
The Mustang flipped over and came to a rest on its roof, with the driver trapped behind the wheel. A Riggs paramedic removed the driver from the vehicle, but the driver was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Culpepper had minor injuries. CHP determined DUI was not a factor in the crash.
