Work on a railroad in north Merced will close a portion of Highway 59 Sunday night, according to officials.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, known as the BNSF, needs an "emergency repair" on a broken rail at Highway 59 and West Olive Avenue, officials said on Friday.

The intersection there will be affected, and workers will close the highway between Cooper and West Olive avenues. Closure begins at 8 p.m. Sunday and will not likely be done before 5 a.m. Monday, officials said.
