Firefighters and other personnel from Merced and the central San Joaquin Valley have joined the firefight in Northern California.

Merced-Mariposa-Madera Cal Fire has sent firefighters and other personnel to help but could not say how many because the dynamics of the fires were changing so quickly, said public information officer Jamie Williams. “Teams have been activated,” she said.

Two engines from Merced City Fire left on Monday on their way north.

The Tulare County Fire Department has at least 20 personnel assigned to fires outside of the area including the Atlas Fire in Napa County and in Southern California, said Chief Charlie Norman, who first received a call for help around midnight. Another request has come in for a small patrol engine to be sent to Mendocino, Sonoma or Napa County, he said.

Fresno County Cal Fire public information officer Jeremiah Wittwer was on route early Monday afternoon to the Atlas Fire. By the end of the day about 60 Fresno County personnel and several engines will have been dispatched, he said.
