Hundreds attended the Gustine Police Department’s Haunted House Halloween Party on Halloween night.

The department’s first kids-themed Halloween party included a haunted house, games, food, prizes and face painting.

It was a perfect event for superhero brothers Emiliano Hernandez and Omar Hernandez Jr. Three-year-old Emiliano dressed up as Spider-Man, while his 5-year-old brother Omar Jr. came as Captain America.

Their parents, Omar Sr. and Jessica, said they were thrilled with the event and hoped the Police Department would make it a tradition.

“We’ve been here our whole lives and it’s the first time that I can remember Gustine doing something like this,” Jessica Hernandez said. “I really hope they keep it up.”

While Omar took his shots at winning prizes at different carnival-style game contests, Emiliano sat down to have a skeleton painted on his face by 16-year-old Yasmine Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was part of a Gustine High School student group, the Interact Club, whose students volunteered their Halloween to paint faces of young kids for free as part of the event.

Dozens of kids visited the haunted house and the bounce house, while others enjoyed food, games and a showing of “Hotel Transylvania” on a 14-foot outdoor screen.

“This is really amazing. I love it,” said Shannon Cherry, whose 9-year-old son Levi attended as video game character Mario of “Mario Bros.” fame. “There’s something for all the kids to do and, as a parent, it’s just great.”
