DMV offers veteran designations on licenses
The Department of Motor Vehicles announced last week that it will offer “veteran” designations on driver’s licenses.
The word “veteran” can be placed on a license or ID card for a one-time $5 fee. To apply, those interested must first obtain a Veteran Status Verification Form from the Merced County Veterans Services office, 3376 N. Highway 59 in Merced.
A veteran label on a driver’s license or ID card can help prove status for military service, which is needed for benefits and discounts. This also frees veterans from carrying around a veteran DD 214 form, or certificate of discharge, at all times.
Schedule an appointment at a DMV field office by visiting www.dmv.ca.gov or calling 800-777-0133. The application process is further explained on the DMV webpage.
