Arts Wrap for Nov. 20, 2015

Classical music

The Merced Symphony presents the “Eight Seasons” concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20. The program, led by Music Director Ming Luke, features eight soloists. Tickets are $39 general, $14 for students. They can be purchased at the Merced Theatre Box Office, 301 W. Main St., or online at www.mercedtheatre.org.

Streisand, Sinatra

The Merced Theatre will host “The Way We Were: A Musical Tribute to Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. Tickets, starting at $29, can be purchased at the Merced Theatre Box Office, 301 W. Main St., or at www.mercedtheatre.org.

Arts open house

More than 40 local artists will display their work from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 4 and from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center, 645 W. Main St., during the fourth annual Holiday Artisan Fair and Arbor Gallery Open House. For more, call 209-388-1090.

Giving workshop

Mariposa Art Company is set to host the “Art of Giving” folk art workshops sponsored by First 5 of Merced County this month. The first is “Ojo de Dios,” which will be taught from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 1. “Ojo de Dios” is an ancient symbol made by the Huichol Indians of Mexico and the Aymara Indians of Bolivia. All classes will be held at the gallery, 1637 M St., and are free. To register, call 209-354-6067.

Jazz at MC

LB concert series

“Urban bluegrass” is on the docket when Morgan Canyon Band comes to Los Banos. The banjo, mandolin, guitar and electric bass make up the sound that combines the characteristics of early rock with those of bluegrass at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Ted Falasco Arts Center, 1105 Fifth St. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 general, $5 for students with ID. Costume show

‘Inherit the Wind’

The Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto plans the courtroom drama “Inherit the Wind,” written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee, and featuring several Merced actors.
