Republican women

La Grange breakfast

The La Grange Odd Fellows will serve breakfast 8 to 11 a.m March 13, as they do every second Sunday of the month. The menu includes biscuits and gravy, sausage, ham and cheese omelets, and French toast. Coffee and orange juice round out the meal, all for $6 at the La Grange IOOF Hall in downtown La Grange. Saturday of Service

Soroptimist Saturday of Service is planned for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Merced County Library, 2100 O St., where members will clean up. For more, look for Soroptimist International of Merced on Facebook.

Fill a bag

The Friends of the Merced County Library plan a spring sale called “Fill a Bag,” when shoppers can fill a bag with books for $3. The sale has begun at the main branch, 2100 O St., which opens at 10 a.m. every day but Sunday. For more, call the library at 209-385-7484.

Festival entries

Merced College Film Club is accepting entries for an upcoming festival. Films should be submitted via email to mercedcollegefilmclub@gmail.com, or a DVD can be mailed to professor William Baker, IAC 248, Stop 34, Merced College, 3600 M St., Merced, CA 95348. The film must be shorter than 10 minutes and submitted by noon March 21. For more, call Baker at 209-384-6390.

Merced Literary Review

Editors of Merced College’s Merced River Literary Review are accepting submissions of poems, short stories, flash fiction, short plays, artwork and creative nonfiction. The deadline to submit original work is midnight April 9. All submissions must be electronic and can be sent to editors@mccd.edu. Good Friday dinner

Club Mercedes has set a dinner for 5-7:30 p.m. on Good Friday, March 25, at the club, 569 W. Ninth St. Cost is $12 per person. Meal is chile rellenos, beans, rice, tortillas and salsa. Hunter safety

The city of Merced’s recreation department offers a Hunter Safety and Range Instruction class from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on March 19-20, May 21-22, and July 16-17. Cost is $15. Book signing at museum

Author Herb Wood, who also wrote “Ghost Towns of Merced County,” will be signing his newly released memoir, “Off the Beaten Path: A Collection of Personal Stories,” at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Merced County Courthouse Museum, on the corner of N and 21st streets. Old Timers honor

The Merced County Old Timers Association is looking for individuals to honor at the 74th annual Old Timers Luncheon. Family members, friends or the qualifying individual may submit applications.
