Rainfall total inches upward in Merced; more rain coming
More than 1 inch of rain fell in Merced over the weekend, and more rain is expected in the coming week, the National Weather Service reported Sunday.
From Friday night to Sunday morning, about 1.07 inches of rain were reported at the Merced Regional Airport. There were reports that north Merced saw even more rain, but no official measurements were recorded, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Scattered showers are expected to taper off by Monday night, followed by a few dry days before the rain returns just in time for the weekend, meteorologist Jim Dudley said Sunday.
“Exactly how much rain we could expect Friday and also on Sunday, we don’t know yet, but the system is staying active and we could definitely get some more badly needed rain,” Dudley said.
Los Banos recorded 1.29 inches of rain between Friday and Sunday.
Rain totals were even higher in the foothills in Mariposa where more than 3 inches fell over the weekend, and El Portal recorded nearly 4 inches of rain, Dudley said.
