Merced Theatre will host a well-known comedian and a singer-songwriter tribute artist in its weekend of shows on the downtown stage.

Marlon Wayans

Perico Productions will present comedian Marlon Wayans at 10:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, at the Merced Theatre, 301 W. Main St.

The earlier show sold out quickly, according to theater staff, which warranted a second show that night. Wayans, 43, is the youngest of the family that produced Keenen, Damon, Kim and Shawn Wayans.

Perhaps best known for his roles in the “Scary Movie” franchise, he’s also appeared in “I’m Gonna Get You, Sucka,” “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood” and TV show “In Living Color.”

Tickets are $35-$45. For more, call 209-381-0500 or go to www.mercedtheatre.org.

John Denver’s music

The Merced Theatre Foundation Presents “Take Me Home: The Music of John Denver” performed by Jim Curry at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at the theater.

Curry was the voice actor used in songs for the CBS made for TV movie “Take Me Home: The John Denver Story,” according to a news release. The movie was made shortly after Denver died in a plane crash in 1997.

Curry covers Denver hits such as “Rocky Mountain High,” “Annie’s Song” and “Country Roads.” The backdrop of the stage will be decorated with photos and video of wildlife, according to a news release.

Tickets are $25-$30. For more, call 209-381-0500 or go to www.mercedtheatre.org.
