Man injured in crash near Los Banos

A San Jose man was trapped for a short time inside his truck Friday afternoon after he lost control of the vehicle, which flipped several times off Highway 152, west of Los Banos, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Joseph Malham, 61, suffered “moderate” injuries that didn’t appear life-threatening in the single-vehicle crash, CHP Officer Lance Velez said.

Malham was traveling 80 miles per hour east around 1:45 p.m. in the left lane of Highway 152 east of Dinosaur Point Road when he lost control of his 2003 Ford F-150 and veered right across the roadway, Velez said.

Malham struck the hillside to the right of the highway, causing the vehicle to overturn several times, eventually landing on its wheels on the right shoulder.

Velez said Malham was trapped until emergency responders arrived. Malham was wearing a seat belt.

Velez couldn’t say how long Malham was trapped, but traffic was running normally shortly after the crash. The right lane was partially blocked for a brief time.

Malham was transported by helicopter to Doctors Hospital in Modesto, Velez said.

Investigators do not believe either drugs or alcohol were a factor. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
