The swimming season is upon Merced and there are a few options for anyone looking to make a splash.

The Merced Parks and Recreation Department is offering separate swim times for general and adults-only swimming through Aug. 14.

Recreational swimming began Thursday at McNamara Park pool, 1040 Canal St., where the program is from 3 to 6 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday. Cost for recreational swimming is $1 for anyone under 18 and $2 for adults.

But it’s “Free Swim Fridays” at McNamara pool for children thanks to a donation from the Merced Satellite Rotary Club, according to a news release. Adults still pay the $2 price on Friday.

General swimming is also open from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at the Golden Valley High School pool, 2121 E. Childs Ave. It’s $1 for children; $2 for adults.

The adults-only swim offerings are from 7 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday at the Merced High School pool, 205 W. Olive Ave., and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the same day at the McNamara pool.

There is no charge for the adult swimming, which is part of the city’s Healthy Eating Active Living program to encourage adults to engage in a healthy and active lifestyle, according to a news release.
