Atwater prison brawl ends in injuries
A series of fights Friday at the Atwater Penitentiary involving more than one inmate ended with multiple injuries, authorities said.
U.S. Bureau of Prisons officials in Washington, D.C., confirmed altercations inside the prison, but said they would not characterize the incident as a “riot.”
The incident resulted in injuries to more than one inmate.
No staff members were injured and the public was never in danger, authorities said.
Authorities did not comment on what may have prompted the violence or how many inmates were involved.
Kristi Rodriguez, spokeswoman for the federal prison, could not be reached by requests seeking additional information.
