The final Open Cockpit Day of the year takes off Sunday at Castle Air Museum in Atwater.

Dozens of historic aircraft will be on display during the Fall Open Cockpit Day, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the museum, 5050 Santa Fe Drive.

The event has been a popular biannual tradition for the last 20 years. This weekend’s event will include “make-and-take” model building for children, helicopter rides, flight simulators and other activities. The food court officers hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream.

Admission is $14 for adults, $8 for seniors (ages 60 and older), $5 for children ages 6 through 17. Active duty military and children under the age of 5 are free. Family admission packages are available for $35, according to the museum’s website.

A tour of a former Air Force One aircraft is also available for an additional $10 per person.

The event typically draws several thousand visitors.
