Two women rafters rescued on San Joaquin River

Two women who were rafting were rescued Monday along the San Joaquin River north of Woodward Park on the border of Fresno and Madera counties.

A man was able to get to the top of the Highway 41 bridge and flag down a CHP officer to alert of trouble.

Several rafters called the Fresno Fire Department and Madera County firefighters to alert them of the emergency.

Fresno firefighters used a boat to rescue the rafters after they became stuck in trees on the river about 1:30 p.m.

They were rescued shortly before 2 p.m. There was no immediate information on injuries.
