Chowchilla High celebrates homecoming victory over Kerman
The Chowchilla High School defense recorded three sacks and forced four turnovers as the Redskins opened North Sequoia League play with a 28-18 home victory over Kerman High on Friday night.
On a night where the defense shined as a unit, the biggest individual play belonged to Alex Gutierrez. The junior linebacker had one of the team’s three interceptions, returning it 77 yards for a touchdown.
It was part of a good start for the Redskins (4-2, 1-0 NSL) as they built a 28-6 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Quarterback Anthony Stewart set the tone for the offense, wracking up 115 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. It was part of another impressive evening from the Chowchilla ground attack. The Redskins rushed for 248 yards on 40 carries as a team, including 72 yards from Fernando Martinez.
Kerman (4-2, 0-1 NSL) rallied a bit in the fourth quarter behind quarterback Evan Sagariballa.
He passed for 119 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but couldn’t get the Lions any closer than 28-18.
