Merced woman killed in crash
A 25-year-old Merced woman was killed Wednesday night when her vehicle struck a telephone pole just outside Chowchilla, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The woman, whose name was not released, was traveling north on Chowchilla Boulevard around 11 p.m. when her black 2012 Chrysler 200 veered off the road. The driver’s side of the vehicle smashed into the pole on the east side of the road.
The cause of the wreck remained under investigation Thursday, Officer Josh McConnell said.
Officers said the woman died at the scene.
McConnell confirmed the crash occurred at a curve in the roadway, which was wet because of rain.
“There were no other people in the vehicle and no witnesses at the scene,” McConnell said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Madera-area CHP office at 559-675-1025.
