Dwelling destroyed by fire in Merced County, Calfire says

A fire near Livingston destroyed a garage that had been turned into a living space, according to officials with Calfire.

Firefighters received a report about 1:30 p.m. Thursday that a detached garage was on fire in the 13000 block of Westside Boulevard, which is south of Livingston, according to Capt. John Slate.

The 10-by-20-foot garage was “fully involved” when crews arrived, according to engineer Cody Wilson. The fire was out after about 15 minutes.

Firefighters kept flames from spreading to the nearby house, and no one was injured, Slate said. Crews also put out a grass fire south of the garage.

A water tender, four engines and 11 firefighters responded, according to Slate.
