Livingston pedestrian killed by vehicle

A Livingston man was killed Wednesday when he was hit by a vehicle as he walked down the center of a road, police said.

A man driving a pickup truck struck the man about 5:40 p.m. as he walked north on Hammett Avenue near Campbell Avenue, said Livingston Police Chief Ruben Chavez.

“For unknown reasons, he was walking in the middle of the road,” Chavez said.

The man, who was believed to be in his early 60s, died at the scene, he said. His name was being withheld pending notification of his family.

The cause of the collision was under investigation, Chavez said. It occurred in an area with little development, about 200 feet from a gas station.
