Fire causes mandatory evacuation in Mariposa County

LATEST: Hunters Fire 15% contained.

Mandatory evacuations were taking place Sunday night in Mariposa County due to a wildfire near Hunters Valley Road.

According to sheriff’s spokesperson Kristie Mitchell, deputies were going door-to-door making contact in the 7900 block of Hunters Valley Road, west of Highway 49 and east of Lake McClure. Six homes were under mandatory evacuation.

The fire had grown to 200 acres with 5 percent containment.

Mitchell said there are hard road closures on Hunters Valley and Bear Valley roads.
