Investigation continues in fatal Mariposa County crash
Authorities are continuing to investigate a crash last week in Mariposa County near Briceburg that killed one man and sent 10 other people to the hospital, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened about 4 p.m. Friday when the driver of a Subaru headed west on Highway 140 near the Bear Creek Bridge tried to pass a car, crossing a double yellow line and entering the eastbound lane. A Ford Explorer headed east on Highway 140 at the same time could not avoid colliding with the Subaru. The two vehicles hit head on, the CHP reported.
A 39-year-old man who was a passenger in the Subaru suffered blunt-force trauma and died at the scene, the CHP said. His identity was not released, pending notification of family.
The four other passengers and driver of the Subaru all suffered moderate injuries. One was a 2-year-old girl. All were from Oakland.
The five people in the Explorer also suffered moderate injuries. One of them was an 8-year-old boy. They were from San Jose.
The CHP said several passengers were taken to area hospitals to be treated for their injuries. No arrests have been made.
