Explore Yosemite area in winter as scenic train ride debuts ‘holiday magic’

The popular Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad is beginning a new ride Friday. For the first time in its 60-year history, the attraction is remaining open during winter.

Its new experience is called the Holiday Magic Train, which runs Nov. 21 through Jan. 4, 2026, according to a news release.

The attraction is known for its historic Shay steam engines and summer Moonlight Special trains in southern Yosemite, the news release says.

The Holiday Magic Train trip is one hour and includes a cup of cocoa. The train departs at 4, 5:30 and 7 p.m., except on blackout days: Nov. 27, Dec. 13, Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1.

Tickets are $58.30 for adults, $29.15 for kids age 3-12 and free for kids under 2 (must ride on lap of adult). There are also First Class Caboose ($132.50) and First Class Cupola ($159) seats available, according to the website.

Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad is at 56001 Highway 41, Fish Camp. It’s near the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park, between Oakhurst and Fish Camp.

The train is handicap-accessible and dog friendly, the website says.
