Minors killed by falling tree limb in Yosemite not yet named
The names of the minors who died in Yosemite early Friday when a tree limb fell on the tent they slept have not yet been released.
Andrea Stewart, a spokeswoman with the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, said the family still needs to contact extended family before names and ages can be provided to the public. Authorities expect to release information Wednesday.
The two minors died around 5 a.m. in Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley when an oak tree limb fell on their tent. According to park officials, rangers responded to provide medical assistance, but the victims were already dead.
Park officials said the campground is one of the most popular with a view of Half Dome. The campground was not full or or near capacity at the time of the incidence.
In 2012, a Yosemite concession employee also died when his tent cabin was hit by a falling limb.
