Mariposa man killed in fiery crash
A 68-year-old Mariposa man died late Thursday in a fiery crash on Harris Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
John Pool was driving a 1986 Volkswagen Microbus west on Harris Road, west of Highway 49, around 10:40 p.m. As his vehicle traveled around curve, the vehicle went off the roadway and traveled down a steep embankment, the CHP said in a brief news release.
The vehicle overturned and caught fire. The flames spread, causing a wildfire that consumed about 3 to 5 acres, the CHP said.
Mariposa County and Cal Fire firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Pool was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation Friday.
