Fire guts home in Mariposa County
A family of five escaped a burning home early Wednesday in the Greeley Hill area of Mariposa County, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The residents were not identified, but sheriff’s officials said the two adults and three children were uninjured. They are staying with relatives, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Flames broke out around 3 a.m. in the 6700 block of Greeley Hill Road. Firefighters from Mariposa County and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection responded to the blaze.
The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene, authorities said.
Investigators said the 1,300-square-foot building was believed to have been built in 1928.
A damage estimate was not available, but authorities described it as a “total loss.”
The cause of the fire remained under investigation late Wednesday.
