Man hospitalized after hit-and-run in Los Banos

Los Banos police are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a man in the hospital Monday evening.

Cmdr. Jason Hedden said police were called to the 300 block of West Pacheco Boulevard, a state highway, at 8:53 p.m. on a report of a man lying in the street. When officers arrived, they found Alberto Rosas, 56, unconscious on the ground in the slow lane of Highway 152.

According to Hedden, witnesses reported seeing the man walking on the highway and then being struck by an older model black vehicle resembling a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro. Witnesses said the driver of the vehicle stopped, opened the car door and looked at Rosas, closed the door and sped away.

Hedden said the car involved in the incident sustained damage to its front end and windshield. He said witnesses were unable to give a description of the driver.

Rosas was flown to a Modesto hospital. He’s in stable condition.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Los Banos police at (209) 827-7070, ext. 0. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
