CHP: Atwater man injured in drunken-driving collision
A 22-year-old Atwater man suffered major injuries Thursday when he was ejected from a vehicle while allegedly driving intoxicated, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Alexander Chavez was taken to a Modesto hospital with a broken leg after the crash around 2:30 p.m. on Highway 59, just south of Snelling Road, the CHP said in news release.
The CHP said Chavez was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer north on Highway 59 and made an “unsafe turning movement” that caused his vehicle to travel off the road and overturn. Chavez was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected during the crash, the CHP said.
He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, but taken to the hospital for treatment, officers said.
No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.
The CHP said the collision remains under investigation.
