Coroner identifies boy shot at Tenaya Middle School

A 16-year-old boy who was shot to death Sunday evening at Tenaya Middle School has been identified as Benito Aguirre, according to the Merced County Coroner’s Office.

Police responded to a shots-fired call at 6:55 p.m. and found the victim unresponsive in the school’s parking lot, at 760 W. Eighth St., according to Sgt. Alan Ward.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No suspect was in custody, and a description of the shooter was not available.
