Officer-involved shooting reported in Chowchilla

Chowchilla police are investigating an officer-involved shooting reported after a pursuit Sunday afternoon.

Details are preliminary, and the case remains under investigation. The incident was reported at 4:07 p.m. after officers were involved in a motor vehicle pursuit that ended with the suspect vehicle crashing into a home in the area of South Third Street and Mariposa Avenue, according to a Chowchilla police news release.

The occupants of the vehicle exited the vehicle and officers began to chase after them on foot. During the foot chase, one of them was shot by police and suffered a gunshot wound to the hand.

That person was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno by ambulance. No officers were injured during the incident, according to the release.

The officers and dispatcher that were involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, per department policy.

According to police, per department policy the shooting is being investigated by an outside agency, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.

The identities of the suspect vehicle occupants and officer involved in the case have not been released.
