Vandalism arrest made in Atwater
Atwater police early Thursday arrested a man suspected of spray-painting a city sidewalk, causing about $1,100 in damage.
Officers were called around 7:30 a.m. to the area of East Bellevue Road and Brownell Street after receiving reports of a man spraying graffiti in the area.
Officer Scott Duncan spotted a man matching the suspect’s description on the south end of the canal bank on East Bellevue Road. The man, later identified by police as 24-year-old Miguel Sandoval, had blue paint on both hands, matching the crime scene, investigators said.
“During a cursory search of the suspect, Officer Duncan located on the suspect’s person the spray can used during the crime scene,” police Chief Samuel Joseph said. “As a result of Officer Duncan’s investigation, the suspect was taken into custody and later confessed to Officer Duncan.”
A jail mugshot was not immediately available Thursday.
