Child turned over to CPS after mother’s arrest in stabbing case
A child allegedly abducted over the weekend in connection with an incident in which a woman is accused of stabbing her husband over nude photographs has been turned over to the Dos Palos Police Department, authorities confirmed Monday.
Police Chief Barry Mann said officers were searching for 4-year-old Noah Apodoca, who was with his grandmother, Mary Saavedra.
Police ordered Saavedra, 45, to surrender Noah to law enforcement officials Saturday evening after an incident at his mother’s home in the 1800 block of Palo Alto Street in Dos Palos, but she refused.
During the incident, police said, 21-year-old Jasmine M. Teltow stabbed her 34-year-old husband in the neck with a kitchen knife after she apparently found nude photographs of an ex-girlfriend on his cellphone. Teltow was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and other allegations.
The victim was treated and released the same day at a Modesto hospital, police said.
Mann said investigators will forward the case against Teltow to the Merced County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday for review. Teltow remained in custody Monday at John Latorraca Correctional Facility in lieu of more than $500,000 bail, according to booking records.
Two of Teltow’s children, ages 1 and 4, were turned over to Child Protective Services on Saturday. Her other son, Noah, was with Teltow’s mother, Saavedra.
Police earlier on Monday said they were searching for Saavedra as a possible abduction suspect. Police spoke with Saavedra by telephone on Monday afternoon.
Mann said, around 4:15 p.m., another family member turned the child over to CPS. Mann said he did not believe officers would seek any charges against the grandmother.
