A 21-year-old Dos Palos woman pleaded not guilty Wednesday to stabbing her husband in the neck during an argument over nude photographs of the man’s ex-girlfriend, the Merced County District Attorney’s Office confirmed.
Jasmine M. Teltow was charged earlier in the day with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse, the prosecutor’s office said.
If convicted of the charges, she faces a maximum prison sentence of life with the possibility of parole, according to Harold Nutt, the chief deputy district attorney who filed the case.
Teltow was arrested Saturday night after police said she stabbed her 34-year-old husband in the neck with a kitchen knife at a home in the 1800 block of Palo Alto Street in Dos Palos.
Police said the violence began after Teltow apparently found nude photographs on her husband’s cellphone. The photos, police said, depicted one of the man’s ex-girlfriends.
He was taken to a regional hospital, where he was treated and released.
Officers seized the knife and took Teltow into custody, Police Chief Barry Mann reported. Teltow’s three young children were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
She remains in custody at the John Latorraca Correctional Facility on more than $500,000 bail, according to Merced County Jail records.
Teltow is due back in court Friday for further proceedings.
