One man shot in Merced
A 30-year-old Merced man was shot early Saturday on West 16th Street, the Police Department said.
The victim was flown to a Modesto hospital. His injury, a single gunshot wound to his lower body, was not considered life-threatening, Merced police said in a news release.
No arrests have been made. The motive for the shooting remains unclear. Police said investigators had not determined whether the incident was gang related.
Officers responded around 3:15 a.m. to reports of gunshots in the area of West 16th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
“When officers arrived they located several people running from the area. The officers detained several people but later released them,” Lt. Chris Goodwin said in the statement.
Police found the victim in the 200 block of West 16th Street.
