Warrant issued for Livingston homicide suspect
Livingston police are looking for a man they believe killed his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend on Sunday during a jealous rage.
A warrant has been issued for Jorge Daniel Vera, charging him with murder in connection with the death of a 27-year-old Atwater man, Lt. Chris Soria told the Sun-Star.
Police said the victim, Edardo Olmos, was stabbed four times, including three in the back, around 8:30 p.m. Sunday outside a home in the 1400 block of Eighth Street in Livingston.
The Merced County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim’s identity.
“This appears to be a jealousy issue. His ex-girlfriend was dating a new person and he got jealous, and it ended up in an altercation that resulted in a stabbing,” Soria told the Sun-Star.
Police said two men came to the house around 8:30 p.m. and one of them fought with Olmos. A resident at the house convinced the suspect to leave, but the men returned about 10 minutes later, and both attacked the victim, police said in a news release.
Olmos was pronounced dead at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.
Investigators believe another man was with Vera during the attack, and officers are looking for him as well.
“We haven’t identified the second man yet,” Soria said. “All we know so far is he’s a white male (adult), but we don’t have an age.”
Police on Monday searched Vera’s home on Central Avenue in Winton, but did not locate any weapons that may have been used in the attack.
Authorities described Vera as about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds.
According to Merced County Superior Court records, Vera was already wanted on four prior misdemeanor warrants for failing to appear on two counts of drunken driving and one count each of petty theft and driving on a suspended license.
Vera pleaded guilty in November 2012 to possession of a concealed dagger and a controlled substance. He was sentenced to three years on probation and 180 hours of community service. He admitted a probation violation in September of last year, court records show.
Olmos’ death marks the seventh homicide of the year in Merced County and the first in Livingston since April 2013.
Investigators are following up leads and trying to identify the suspects. They ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Sgt. Raymond Fong at (209) 394-7916 or the department’s confidential tip line at (209) 394-3640.
