Atwater woman faces possible felony charges in suspected DUI crash, CHP says

A 52-year-old Atwater woman faces possible felony charges in connection with a suspected drunken-driving crash last week, the California Highway Patrol confirmed Monday.

Cynthia Black and her passenger, Douglas Black, were not wearing seatbelts and both were ejected when their car, a 2010 Toyota Scion, crashed in the area of Applegate and Moran roads on the outskirts of Atwater, Officer Eric Zuniga said.

The exact relationship between the two people was unclear Monday, officers said.

Both were flown to Modesto hospital with major injuries. Investigators said they found beer cans and beer boxes inside the damaged car.

Updates on their conditions were not available Monday.

Zuniga on Monday confirmed Cynthia black had been placed under arrest on suspicion of felony drunken driving in connection with the crash, which remained under investigation.
