Officer-involved shooting reported in Merced County
A Dos Palos police officer opened fire this morning after responding to the “disturbance” report, the Sun-Star has confirmed.
Police Chief Barry Mann said nobody was injured with the officer, whose name was not released, fired at least one shot just before 9 a.m. in the 1900 block of Center Avenue in Dos Palos.
“One suspect is currently in custody,” Mann told the Sun-Star. Police declined to release the man’s name on Wednesday, saying only he was 21 years old and lived at the home where the violence broke out.
Police said the 21-year-old man was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of threatening a police officer, making criminal threats — both felonies — and a misdemeanor count of brandishing a weapon.
Investigators declined to say what type of weapon the man is accused of brandishing.
Mann said the officer arrived at the home around 8:40a.m. and “perceived a threat” and fired “more than one round.”
Authorities said it was too early to release additional details on Wednesday.
Police investigators remained on scene into the late afternoon.
Los Banos police officers were assisting with the investigation Wednesday afternoon.
