Atwater teen assaulted with baseball bat
An Atwater teenager was taken to the hospital this week after he was attacked with a baseball bat, the Police Department reported.
Officers responded just before 3 p.m. Thursday to the area of Fairway Drive and Nicklaus Court, where they found a 17-year-old boy with a head injury, Lt. Samuel Joseph said.
The teenager was taken to a Modesto hospital for treatment. His injuries were not believed to be life threatening, police said.
No arrests have been made.
Officers believe the victim was attacked by multiple people who may have been gang members. Police said they do not believe the victim was involved in gangs, but have not ruled out that possibility.
Officers said the victim was wearing the color red and the attack may have been a case of mistaken identity.
